My Heart Is Split

Hey, so I went for a walk this morning in scenic hell’s kitchen and did some work on My Heart Is Split. Kait wrote some lyrics based on C.C.’s blog post. Kait’s orginal lyrics are in the comments on C.C.’s blog.

Anyway, I sound awful and pitchy and my piano is WAY out of tune (someone’s actually coming to tune my piano in about an hour but i didn’t feel like waiting), but here it is. There are, of course, no words to the last 2/3rds of the chorus since kait didn’t write them yet.

  1. Oops. There are so many “eer” rhymes! I blame CC. No, but for real, I’ll fix that. It’s prettier than I thought it would be when I wrote the lyrics… And doesn’t feel anywhere near as country as I was afraid it would because the music is sort of accentuating the idiosyncrasies of what CC wrote. Awesome. I’ll write more lyrics sometime… like when I finish all these Sam Brown lyrics never.

You said you were worried about the “it” rhyme but I don’t think that should be bad at all, actually. I always try to avoid rhyming little clipped words like that because they cut off and don’t sing as well but you set me up for it. It will be a nice not reach for a context for “sky” or a rhyme for “love” for a change!

  2. I like it. It’s a good start!

  3. Wow! That was so surreal…a song from my writing. It sounds great so far.

  4. It was really exciting to hear that, on so many levels. I can’t wait to hear more.

  5. Ok. I was going to write out a full lyric and finish off our draft of the song but I got distracted with lots of other work so I only got as far as finishing the chorus (as always, subject to change):

    My heart is split
    between home and here.
    I’m cut in half.
Two beds, two lives, and I live in between
My porch back at home and this strange new world I knit.
    My heart is split.

  6. When do we get to hear the next part?

  7. Kait and Brian, this is so amazing. I can’t wait to hear the whole thing. Awesome work in progress. Keep me updated while you finish it.
