  3. a musical created on the internet by the award-winning writing team Kerrigan and Lowdermilk based on the lives of two young bloggers as they share the story of their freshman years of college

Finally, some info for y’all.

So, I feel that you readers deserve a little more explanation about this whole potential transfer situation. I’ve wanted to go into detail for a while now, but haven’t had time to really delve into it.

Frankly, the theatre department here is less than stellar. Almost all of it is student-run (like Musical!) and at first that really excited me, because I also like to direct and write and etc. But now I wish there were more opportunities to work with the faculty, some of whom are really talented and have amazing credentials. Most of the theatre classes here are all absurdly specific and most don’t teach any basics. The ones that do only have one section so they’re often impossible to fit into a course schedule. Being here, as well as talking to my friends who are at conservatories (or liberal arts colleges with stronger theatre programs) has made me realize that I’m really disappointed in the lack of a cohesive theatre department here at PU.

As of now, I’m grappling. There are things about PU that I really like—the location, the English department, my friends. But I don’t know if it can really provide me with the training I need to do what I want in life. More than that, I want to enjoy my classes. Right now, with the exception of my English course, I have to force myself to go class everyday. My mind wanders and I’m uninterested. At the beginning of the year, I had lots of excuses: the material was boring, the teacher was droning, etc, etc. As the year progresses, I’m starting to realize that maybe the problem is something bigger. Perhaps I’m just not as interested in certain things (politic science, art history) as I thought I was.

Currently, I’m filling out applications to 5 colleges. I have a lot of work to do and very little time (the deadline is December 1!), plus I have to do it all in addition to my full course-load. I don’t know if I’ll want to leave by the end of the year (or if I’ll even get accepted to any other schools) but I’m trying to keep my options open. I guess I figure that, if I were truly happy at PU, I wouldn’t be so passionate about trying to go elsewhere.

P.S. If I end up going to one of the conservatories I’m auditioning for, I’ll have to be a freshman again. Freshman experiment: part two perhaps?

Oh my dear PU, (5)
Do we belong together? (7)
It’s so hard to tell. (5)
