Mad Props to Erin Nelson
I am taking time out of my VERY busy Wednesday night (read: top chef and boston market) to issue lots and lots of props to a certain Erin Nelson of Viterbo University. She is (i believe), the first to perform, record and upload a FreshX song other than kait and i. And guess what? she sounds amazing.
Honestly, I just had a really lovely moment noticing what’s happened over this year. CC wrote a beautiful post called my heart is split, kait wrote a lyric, i set it, k+i bickered back and forth about how to finish it, and then suddenly it was done. And usually that’s all the happens, and in a few years maybe the song would have a life. But I made a pdf of the sheet music on my little mac, posted it here first, and we made a scrappy little recording. And Erin Nelson downloaded it, learned it, presumably found a piano and a pianist, and uploaded it here. I think that’s fucking rad.
So please! Other wonderful singers out there, let’s share the love, record some videos. Be like Erin Nelson, be a part of the weird creative cycle that is the freshman experiment. i swear, we’re all gonna win f’in pulitzers for this shit someday.

PS: Brian loves greasy food.
Fancy Restaurant + Excessive Sandwich From South of the Mason-Dixon Line = The Happiest Brian of Them All
Erin! You sound amazing!!! Brian’s right. This is so cool.
Erin you have a beautiful voice. I love the way you sing this song…trying to figure out exactly what that food is…I recognize bacon and maybe something cheesy under it? Looks like a heart attack on a plate!
It’s called a Kentucky Hot Brown. Bobby Flay won his challenge with it on “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” and ever since it was a goal of Brian’s to eat it. And eat it he did.
Also - We just got our second video of My Heart Is Split. This one is sung by a guy. I had my doubts about guys singing this song but it’s fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZprHME5vd0
Size 12 feet!! LOL
Hey! So my friend was pretty cool and re-mixed “My Heart is Split” without me even asking him to, and took out all the crap in the back and balanced the sound…take 2!

Great job, Erin!
Here’s another version I really like (although he does some random house cleaning at the end).

Actually, this video introduced me to Kerrigan and Lowdermlik.
I like that one a lot too. It’s surprising but he’s got a really great voice and there’s a really intimate and playful quality to the video overall.
I’m in LOVE with this project. I’m actually going to Viterbo next year for musical theatre and found Erin’s video- and I watched it… and watched it, facebooked it to my mt junkie friends, and in fact I’m still listening to it as I type this message. Erin did a wonderful job with this song! K&L- you guys rock.
Thank you for saying that, Amelia. That means so much to us. It’s strange to work on this project - normally the gratification of a show’s success is so delayed but here, we expect it instantly. It’s so cool when several months after something happens, I check in here and see that someone new has started reading / watching / listening and they’re looking through our archives of this year-long process.
