I’m working on Last Week’s Alcohol and I want to share with you guys what Brian just sent me. It’s cool to hear what came out of his long ramblings that he posted a couple months ago. Right now it’s 3 minutes and we anticipate the song being about 7 or 8… but this is what the basic groove will be based on.

I want you to know what you’re listening to: this isn’t what the song will be. This is the groove I’ll be listening to as I write lyrics… so the lyrics end up almost feeling like a descant above this main melody. At some point, we hope that the main motif will be sung with a lyric on it but that probably only happens once.

Kait’s Notes

Take a listen. My notes so far are mostly schematic. I don’t have a plan for where the story goes yet but I’ll start to map it all out pretty soon and I’ll share this as I go.

  1. Ooooh, I like it a lot! Definitely reminiscent of Radiohead’s “Videtape” or Death Cab!

  2. I can’t wait to hear what this all sounds like when its all done! This is awesome, I really like it so far.

  3. i’m so glad you guys like it (especially you, kait). it’s hard for me, because i can hear in my head what i ultimately want it to sound like, and this is a mid-point at best. but at least now you can hear a little closer to what i’m going for tone-wise.

i heart deathcab. and i think this is a really cool tone to tell this story over.

  4. I had a feeling that others would be as unaware of what was in your brain as I was… now we have a shimmery little glimpse.

  5. Daaaang, I really like it! I don’t really know how to describe why I like it so much, maybe because it reminds me of Ben Folds. I don’t know, just sounds really nice. Cool stuff.

  6. I really like it. It’s get stuck in your head really easily. I can wait to hear it when it’s done!

  7. Hey! I went back to read some of the older posts, and now can’t wait to see how everything will come together! I’ve listened to it a few times, and really like it!
