EDIT: Gringa tell me you just saw the men’s swimming 4×100 relay!!! That was fucking epic - I flipped my shit.

Guys, I swear to you, Olympic athletes are superheroes. I cannot stop watching the Games since it began on Friday - handball, rowing, water polo, gymnastics - I’ve been watching everything! I used to run track in high school and I was decent at it, but I was born to be a spectator. I get so into it, constantly screaming or cheering at my TV for hours.

Last night, my friends and I ran our asses off to see Phelps swim and it was totally worth it. Are you enjoying the Olympics?

  1. I love the Olympics! I’ve been watching what I can over here, but they’re on really (really!) late over here, so I usually have to catch the highlights later on :( My favourite is gymnastics, because it just looks so insane, and so amazing… I also love the handball and volleyball, and, if I can see it live, the swimming as well (I tried watching some of the sailing, but it wasn’t very exciting because there didn’t seem to be that much wind, and it was bringing back too many memories of boring hours sitting in boats that weren’t going anywhere). The Olympics are such great fun, though! I never used to watch the games, but this time around I’m really getting into them!

  2. Phelps is kicking ass. And I loved when that other relayer called the French “frenchies.” It was perfect. I’ve really only been watching the swimming but it’s amazing.

I read an article about one of the marathon runners, so I’m pretty psyched to see what happens with that one. The whole article isn’t online but here’s the abstract. It’s by one of my favorite guilty pleasure writers Peter Hessler: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/08/11/080811fa_fact_hessler

  3. You have no idea how annoyed I am right now! I slept through it! I did see the 4×200 relay, though, which was really good, though Brazil (which is where I’m originally from) was terrible! I was jumping in my seat for all the wrong reasons… :( I’m really, really impressed, though, with the American swimmers because they’ve been so just amazing to watch… (Phelps really is sensational) actually, the American athletes in general have been great, just really go for it.

I’m catching up with men’s gymnastics at the moment… HOW do they do all stuff! :S It’s just… a bit… wow. lol

  4. I’m an Olympics junkie. I had a countdown to 8/8/08 a while before, I’ll admit. I love the Winter Olympics, too, but the Summer ones are my favorite. And they only happen once every four years, so I plan to take in as much of it as I possibly can! It’s also great that nbcolympics.com is putting a lot of the events online for recap to watch whenever you can get around to it. It really helps me especially since my two favorite sports of the Olympics are majorly undercovered (Equestrian sports and Field Hockey). It’s really a shame, to me, that synchronized diving has gotten all this primetime coverage and a lot of other really interesting sports are being neglected to late night and daytime coverage (if anything at all). The US women swept the medals in the sabre competition and they hardly got a recap on primetime! I don’t know, I’ve kind of always had a problem with NBC’s coverage ever since I realized that the Equitation was hardly shown (because I’m biased!) XD

And I have to mention that Phelps and Katie Hoff make me really proud to be from Baltimore =)

  5. I just found out that a girl from my high school made the field hockey team. i haven’t watched any of the field hockey yet though - are they doing well???

  6. The women’s team has tied 2 games and lost one. So they’re ranked fifth in their pool of 6 for the moment. But they have more round points than Korea, New Zeland, and South Africa and their next game is against New Zeland who has yet to win or tie a game in the tournament. So they’re doing well considering the teams that they’re up against.

  7. Nice.
