Only a few weeks left

Music: Schwayze - Corona and Lime

I’m sitting on my front porch stealing internet from one of my neighbors so I can look up what books I need for my fall classes. Picking a schedule is one of the more stressful, time consuming things about college. There are just so many choices  and so little time. Plus, you have to choose classes that fill your requirements and if you went to or go to a liberal arts college like me, that means taking something awful (like fucking Physics) in order to get that science requirement out of the way. I usually opened the course catalog, flipped to departments that were of interest to me and then became overwhelmed and shut the damn thing. But once you finally pick four classes the most heartwrenching part happens and that’s realizing that a particular class is full. Believe me, there is nothing more irritating than making a perfect schedule that even gives you a day off during the week only to realize that it will never happen.

After I saw “Sorry this class is full” for the upteenth time I enrolled in a random Sociology class and called it a night. I completely forgot about it until today, four weeks later, when I found the books I needed for the course and I think it’s going to be one of my favorite classes. The texts are so interesting, I’m tempted to get them right now. I’ve also heard good things about my physics class, so once again I’m getting geekily excited to learn and be in the classroom.

BUT, I’m still in summer mode, I promise. Yesterday night I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics and bought a crocheting kit. When I went to the checkout line the cashier rang me up and said, with a smirk, “good luck.” I asked her if crocheting was hard and she just said I should try knitting first but I already shelled out the $25 so I just went home with my kit. Now it’s just sitting on my desk unopened and I’m deciding if I should exchange it for a knitting one.

Or maybe I should take up scrapbooking instead…

  1. Dude. You can crochet. It’s all about being able to read directions. Which you can do. I know so many people who taught themselves how to do it. And youtube is a wonderful place where you can watch people do all sorts of mundane things like watch someone sing their puppies to sleep (brilliant, by the way) or crochet. Crochet me a hat!!!! or a scarf. I’d imagine the latter is easier.

  2. Oh no! You should totally do the crochet thing! And post pictures of the results! Or something! No, but seriously, try it out. From what I can tell, they’re both going to be tricky at first, so you might as well try out the one that interests you most.

And two friends of mine have done Sociology, one had to do a course at university in Brazil, and the other, here in England, did two years of it for A levels, and is now going to study it at university, hoping to eventually become a sociology teacher. They both really, really enjoy it, and from what I know of it, it’s a pretty fascinating subject. Not too sure about physics, though! lol

Kait: someone sing puppies to sleep? That just proves it… you really CAN finding anything on youtube… :D

  3. Not only was it on youtube. It was on the best of youtube and therefore on my ipod. Turns out you can also find anything on my ipod.
