CALLING ON FROSHIES!
Mizzie, Chellybean, and any other FreshX users who are starting their first year - TELL ME HOW IT IS SO FAR? What kind of college are you going to, big or small? What orientation activity are you doing? Does your roommate seem nice? Come on, guys, you lived vicariously through me for a year , now I wanna live through you!
cc-you’re adorable.
I still have to pack! I move in Thursday! I still can’t believe that I’m going to a school that’s all of a half hour away when I always swore I’d go far away for college. Insanely enough, the best school for me was close and not far. I’m going to an art college and I went there last summer for a pre-college program, swearing that I wasn’t going to end up going there for undergrad and now I am. It’s going to be weird seeing some of the same people, but not all of them. It’s also weird that I’m going to be bored to tears on the campus tour. I could give the campus tour. I don’t even know my schedule yet! I don’t get it until Thursday when I show up! They put it online, but it’s tentative so I don’t trust it too much. We all take the same classes our foundation year, though, save for one elective for the year, so I don’t have to choose classes or anything. It seems like I got my photo elective which makes me so happy! And, if that schedule’s right, no painting until second semester! I hate painting. Yes I’m going to art school and I hate painting, I want to go into graphic design. I love to draw, just not paint. Yes that makes me a weird art student and I don’t care.
Yay! Freshman kazzang!
I’m excited. I’m terrified. I’ve convinced myself that it’s normal.
I move in…tomorrow morning! Well, technically today, since it’s past midnight. I have a five hour drive to the school, then I get to unpack and chill until Tuesday, when Orientation starts. Packing was ridiculous…I am bring WAY too many clothes. They’ll barely fit in my tiny car. Not to mention, a tub (TUB) full of sheet music and ANOTHER full of all things Broadway…at least, what I HAD to bring. So many cast recordings, so little space.
My college is pretty small, actually. The residence, apparently, is never full, so they have to work it as a hotel as well as a residence. The rooms are suits. You share a kitchen and bathroom with only one other person. All of the first year music theatre kids seem to be on the same floor, which is awesome, and I’ve met most of them online. My class is definitely TINY. I know that the second year class will have eleven people, and from what I’ve seen, mine only has about seventeen right now. That’s SMALL and I’m HAPPY. The program is sort of considered second place (or/likely less) in the pecking order of Canadian MT schools. My program is the baby program (so new!) that nobody really knows about. It’s the program everybody sort of turns their nose up at. Hard idea to get used to at first, but then I realized…um, this program will clearly end up taking the theatre world by storm. I mean, DUH.
My roommate seems nice from what I’ve deciphered on FaceStalk, although her phone persona and typing persona are two entirely different things. She sort of switches from ‘OMG LOL!!!’ to ‘Meh, okay, sure…’ I shall learn much more when we actually meet…tomorrow…oh my gosh, I go to college tomorrow.
I go to college tomorrow. Gah. Thanks for reminding me. I type too much. I love TFE!
P.S. Good luck, GoodbyeMidnight! Art school - that’s awesome!
Instead of heading to college out of highschool, I headed to Europe. I watched all my friends pack up and leave for their new lives. I arrived in Paris yesterday. I’m going to language school for five weeks here, and then I’m off exploring unknown lands and unknown parts of me.
Saramaile! You’re like Sam Brown. I think it’s great that you’re doing something non-traditional. College right out of high school is so right for some people and other people really need a little time to explore on their own and figure things out before they want to be that structured again. How exciting!
I’m so happy to hear all of you sound really psyched for your very different experiences. It’s so interesting that none of you are doing the same thing at all!
I’m starting in October, and will be moving in at the end of next month. I’m really, really excited about it, because I was meant to go a year ago, but because of a few problems I had to postpone. I’m sort of getting the feeling now that my life is finally getting back on track, after a really bad year.
Anyway! I’ll be doing Anthropology and Classical Civilisation & Literature, which was a last minute choice. Originally, I was going to do Philosophy and English Language (or linguistics) or, for something different, Fine Art or Illustration. Then I found the course I’m doing now, and fell instantly in love. Plus, I get to do Latin, which I’m really looking forward to!
I managed to get my first choice of accommodation, which is kind of like a normal flat, with five rooms. I have no clue who I’m sharing with, at the moment, which makes me a little nervous. I mean, I’ll be sharing flat with them for a year (if we get along, maybe more). Stuff like this can change whole university experience… :S
We don’t usually call our first year the freshman year, just first year, usually (I’m in England, by the way), but we do have the Freshers Week, which is when we have to stand in line to take rubbish pictures for our student id, get schedules, find out where we’re going to study and discover all the groups and societies the university has on offer, as well as the sports. I found out, recently, that my university has a few sailing boats and team. I used to sail when I was little younger, and suddenly started missing it, so I think I might try that out, and see how it goes. The only problem I’m finding is that there’s so much to try out! I just want to do so many different things, but I’m pretty sure there won’t be nearly enough time (or money…) to do them. How to choose, how to choose…
Oh, and GoodbyeMidnight: I’m the same, I don’t enjoy painting much. I love, love pastels, though. I practically gave up painting during the second year of A level, and only used pastels. Such a wonderful material…
